Memorial Day….

May 29, 2011

Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and it’s a day set aside to remember those who have sacrificed for our country.  Sacrificed their time, talents and even their very lives.  I know I won’t remember everyone in my family or friends who has served, but I wanted to mention one I never met — my Granddaddy Robert.

This is the only picture I have.  Granddaddy was in the Navy Reserves in the 1940s and served on the USS Day.  I know very little about him, for he was very young when he died – my mom was just 2.  He had a brain tumor and died in Georgia – away from his family.  I wonder what he was like quite often.  I wonder how different my Mamaw’s life would’ve been had he lived.  I hope to meet him in Heaven one day.

Others in my family (sorry if I skip anyone!) are my Uncle Huston, his son Randy (USAF), my great-uncle Carl (USMC), his son Tony (Army), Tony’s daughter Michaela and son Anthony, and my brother, Jared (Army).  Thank you all for serving your country and defending my freedoms.

Today in church, Pastor Dan Lien said that service personnel are a ‘shadow of Christ,’ for they want us to be free.  Never thought of it that way, but it’s so true!

May God continue to bless the United States of America, and may we never forget!
